In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies the prevailing theme is that of which savagery is in all men. Without the guidance of adults and the structure of society the boys become lawless and barbaric. The way that Simon is killed shows the danger of the savage mind, and how much of their civilized past the boys have lost. “Golding uses light imagery of the sky, the water creatures and Simons’ body to show the apotheosis of Simon.” Piggy’s death made a lasting impression on the boys of how precious life is exactly. Life is more important than what they made it up to be, his death was more momentous to the people that lived as opposed to the people that died.
